The underline pavilion is an extension of Chelsea's continuing institutional art project insofar as it too proposes a new aesthetic framework to re purpose an abandoned industrial site for the event and exhibition of art to occur. Utilizing architectural devices of uniform wall plane and light emission which ad minimum typify the gallery typology, the intervention attempts to establish a temporal precinct which circumvents the site's preexisting infrastructure to generate a program reminiscent of its neighbours: gallery, stage and gathering space. A four strut tensegrity module consisting of fluorescent lamps in compression and electrical wire in tension is the seed for this new institutional space frame. Its geometry allows for its sequential array in three axes producing a uniform lattice on which art work and light baffle are attached and reconfigured. Its structural rigidity and lightness affords spans and cantilevers that rival its looming 19th century steel husk, articulating the weight and endeavour of its construction. Ephemeral, the pavilion, once disassembled is itself re purposed as a light fixture series, thereby collapsing the gallery into its respective artifact.

The tensegrity space frame light is comprised of a four strut lamp module whose geometry is the derivative of a cube.
 It affords a stable platonic structure with the ability to orthogonally tessellate in the x,y.z axes without change to its orientation to produce generic architectural elements such as: columns, roofs, walls and beams. Because tensegrity yields a system of structural correlation, moment force is eliminated and makes way for a high strength to weight ratio; as the system's surface area increases, to a greater extent so too does its rigidity, allowing for generous spans and cantilevers. When arrayed, each consecutive module is pinned to the latter using its lamp connector to fasten to the mid point of an adjacent electrical tendon. The uniform array produces two distinct patterns of lamp and lattice. Where the lamps produce a luminous weave that at times resembles an orthogonal grid of offset lines, the lattice generates a sequential pattern of two distinct squares rotated at 45 degrees, one four times the size of the other.

Although Bartosik arrived at the proposed system independently through his continual experimentation;
it should be noted that Mr. Marcelo Pars produced a similar structural module which narrowly predates his discovery.

Tensegrity Lights are based on two Kenneth Snelson sculptures: 'Needle Tower' - 1968 and 'City Boots' - 1968
Utilizing Snelson's structural discovery, appropriated and popularized by Buckminster Fuller as 'Tensegrity',
new possibilities of light forms emerge whereby the light source and its electrical wire work mutually in
compression and tension to produce a seemingly discontinuous field of light defined by it structural form.

Dominion is a series of light objects that reproduce the abstract universal plane ad infinitum. Akin to the voyaging monolith of Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s clearspan pavilion, they are ambiguous in form and scale; they exist as both solids and voids. At once furniture, at once follie, they delineate instances of the Cartesian grid upon which space is organized.

The series is part of the Klaus Collection and is available through Klaus by Nienkamper

Its growth is proportional to the erosion of traditional city fabric above grade through the emergence of the tower plaza scheme as the dominant building typology of the late 20th century. Similar to Constant's 'New Babylon', the growing network represents: 'A city undergoing constant flux and reconfiguration at a speed matching the modern forms of transportation determined to revolutionize its historic fabric.' Its organic and labyrinthine plan suggests new modes and possibilities of experiencing the city. This promise remains unfulfilled however, the PATH's role is utilitarian; it provides the shortest and most direct link between the horizontal trajectory of the commuter train to the vertical ascension of the elevator. Using these principles, commuters from the previous GO parking lot survey are plotted through the system by establishing their train time arrival into Union Station and place of work in the city core.

A suburban Parking lot for the 'Port Credit' Go Train station is surveyed for five consecutive business days. Three types of users are identified according to their parking habits: the Absolute: point, the Territorial: cloud, and the Drifter: line.
Over the course of the work week, the returning users generate a model of a complex social network the likes of an urban public space at odds with the parking lot's role as a destination for immediate abandonment.

Descartes Stereo explores the principle behind 'Cartesian Dualism' in the context of the human/electronic interface. Through the deconstruction of our stereoscopic vision and its reconstitution from the perspective of a machine; a mutual form of artificial intelligence emerges, linking the viewers. A stereoscopic visor is attached to the center mullion on the exterior of the gallery window. It contains two monitors with video feeds from two cameras within the gallery. The camera positions are congruent to the viewers eyes and look back at them. Looking in, the viewer sees only themselves, acting as the cameras neural system of vision. The resulting image is a visual co-authorship of Descartes' declaration: 'Cognito ergo sum' - I think therefore I am.

The Fluorescent grotto occupies the entry stairwell of the former Parkdale Train Station under the Dufferin Street Bridge. After the station's closure, it served as a passageway to the rails and as a transitory shelter from the street. Once its entry points have been sealed off with concrete slabs and a locked gate, the contents of its former occupants and activities have remained preserved. Fluorescent tubes are sprung in compression between the retaining walls and hover above the nosing of each stair. They serve to highlight the physical artifacts of the neighbourhood's past, while making parody of Queen Street West's new mythology.
